Meet Leandra, Inkululeko's Social Enterprise Lead

By: Emma Mostajo

Joining Inkululeko in 2018, Leandra Fobe was initially in charge of Common Ground Cafe, Inkululeko’s social enterprise unit.

Since that time, Leandra has served in many roles: as a classroom assistant in 2020, to now being in charge of logistics, which she had started in 2021. Leandra has been such an important part of this organization, and continues to be dedicated to make sure the learners are being supported in the best way possible.

Leandra has noticed throughout her different roles in Inkululeko that technology is crucial to the learners in the program.

She shared how it has also made learning “very easy for them and improved their communication skills.”

When technology was first introduced into the classrooms for the learners, they were unsure how to use the devices. With the support of Leandra, mentors, and other classroom assistants, the learners were able to adapt quickly, and are now proficient in using technology within the classroom.

The introduction and use of technology has shown massive improvements within all areas of the classroom. With more learners joining the program, there is beginning to be more learners than resources available. Even though Leandra and her classroom assistants have shown improvement within their program, there is still room for more learners to get the resources they need. As of now, with the number of learners growing rapidly, the classrooms are in need of more laptops and study guides.
